IMPROVE-SCA

An Australian national study improving the outcomes and survivorship following sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the young (1-50 years)

In Australia, about 3000

young people between the

ages of 1 - 50 experience a

sudden cardiac arrest each year

Less than

10%

survive a sudden cardiac arrest

CALL FOR CHANGE

IMPROVE-SCA aims to change our approach to caring for families that have experienced a sudden cardiac arrest

Australia's current approach to sudden cardiac arrest

Unlike other countries, Australia does not currently have a unified system to manage and care for individuals and family members after sudden cardiac arrest.

National Summit for sudden cardiac arrest

In 2022, a National Summit was held in Canberra.

Participants included clinicians, researchers, consumers, patient advocates and government.

Lack of coordinated care

One of the main issues discussed at the summit was the lack of coordinated care for individuals and their families after sudden cardiac arrest.

IMPROVE-SCA acknowledges the First Australian peoples on whose traditional lands we live and work. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We gratefully accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart "to walk with us in a movement of the Australian people for a better future”.
